Lancashire Folk
This blog is the ‘front page’ of a book which will be published early in 2016 by Schiffer Publishing. Its title is Lancashire Folk, which describes its content well. The book is a compilation of all things weird and wonderful in Lancashire; ghosts, devils and fairies, standing stones and circles, witches and wizards, green men and holy wells. Lancashire Folk – the book – is a gazetteer, arranged alphabetically by town. I have given basic OS Map references to the towns and also postcodes, so readers can explore these wonderful places for themselves.
I have been interested in such things for most of my life and have become an obsessive collector of folktales and stories, so the time has come to publish my collection as a book. I think I can safely say that Lancashire Folk is the most comprehensive collection of Lancashire weirdness ever to be in print and I hope my readers will enjoy browsing through it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
If you would like me to let you know when the book is available, use my contact form or email me at patten00@hotmail.com
Of course, I can’t claim that my book is an utterly comprehensive collection – if you know of a story which should be included, please let me know and it will appear in the second edition. Contributors will, naturally, be credited.
This blog may also include interesting local history notes which, whilst they don’t belong in Lancashire Folk, are still wonderful little titbits. Also, you might sometimes see tales from my next collection; Manchester Folk.
Future Titles
At some indefinable point in the future, look out for Manchester Folk!

Thank you! My book, Lancashire Folk, will be published in Autumn 2015. I was intending to self-publish but have since received a very nice offer from Schiffer Publishing, who have agreed to publish this and the next two books in my counties series. Very encouraging!

Thank you so much! I’m always pleased to hear that people are enjoying my stories. I love these tales too and think they deserve retelling. That’s what folklore is about, isn’t it – it’s all in the retelling…
